A plant that is well-liked by aquarists and is highly resilient to harsh environments. It is appropriate for any aquarium because of its modesty. Yellow cryptocoryne also has strong decorative qualities and grows to a height of 15-20 cm in dense thickets.

It ought to be positioned in the aquarium’s center and foreground.

The plant does not impose special requirements on the composition of water. The temperature can fluctuate between 20 and 30 °C. At temperatures below 20 °C, the growth of cryptocoryne slows down significantly. Optimal conditions are water temperature of 24 – 28 °C, hardness from 4 to 16 ° at pH 6.8 – 7.5. However, the plant tolerates acidic water with a pH below 6 quite well. This species is very resistant to cryptocoryne disease, only a sharp shift in pH towards increasing the acidity of soft water can lead to the shedding of all leaves. To stop the decay of leaves, it is necessary, after draining 1/4 – 1/3 of the water, to add water to the aquarium with characteristics close to the original. Periodic water changes are not necessary. The plant feels good in both old and new water.

For yellow cryptocoryne, lighting can vary greatly. The plant grows well in strong lighting and can withstand prolonged shade. We can suggest using either incandescent lamps at a rate of 0.75 – 1.5 W per liter or fluorescent lamps of the LB type at a rate of 0.25 – 0.5 W per 1 liter of aquarium volume for keeping cryptocoryne.

Combining lights produces the best effects. The leaf’s central vein is red in low light, and the leaf blade as a whole is green. The red color spreads to the leaf blade as the illumination rises. In a shallow aquarium, extremely bright lighting causes the cryptocoryne leaves to take on a color akin to beets. There are various durations of daylight, ranging from 8 to 16 hours.

Yellow cryptocoryne should be grown in old, well-silted soil. However, it can also thrive in fresh soil that is somewhat deficient. In this instance, you can either add silt from the previous aquarium or, better yet, place a lump of clay beneath the plant’s roots. The ideal substrate consists of small pebbles and coarse sand, applied in a 4–5 cm layer.

In an aquarium, yellow cryptocorynes only reproduce vegetatively. In ideal circumstances, the plant grows quickly into dense thickets that need to be periodically thinned out. From the thickets, young plants with three or four leaves are removed. When transplanted, they establish themselves fast.

It is possible to cultivate cryptocoryne in a humid greenhouse. It will not set seeds in artificial conditions, but it will bloom if kept in bright light and between 28 and 30 °C. The aquatic form of the plant is more beautiful than its terrestrial counterpart.

The water level in the container must be gradually lowered to the soil level in order to transfer the cryptocoryne from an aquatic environment to an air one. It is safe to put a plant removed from a paludarium in an aquatic environment.
