Limnobium stoloniferam / laevigatum

Hydrocharitaceae family. Homeland: North and South America’s tropical and subtropical zones.

  • A floating plant with short petioles supporting rounded, glossy leaves that are 2-3 cm in diameter. Limnobium serves as a natural shade in aquariums in addition to being used as an ornamental plant. Limnobium has the potential to tightly cover the entire aquarium’s surface if it grows well. In this instance, extra plants ought to be taken out. The limnobium plant’s fibrous roots effectively remove turbidity from the water. Its unassuming nature makes the plant extremely popular with aquarium hobbyists. You can accomplish its consistent growth all year long at home.

Limnobium is not too sensitive to temperature fluctuations. It can be maintained in tropical aquariums that are heated to a temperature between 20 and 30 °C. The plant grows smaller and its growth rate is noticeably slower in colder water. Soft water is slightly more conducive to limnobium growth than hard water. The ideal water hardness is between 10 and 12 °; active reaction is irrelevant. Although frequent water changes are ideal, the plant tolerates old water well.

Like most floating plants, limnobium needs bright lighting, though it can tolerate brief shadowing. The plant grows to its fullest size and appears especially lovely in natural light, particularly sunlight. It can grow well in artificial lighting as well.

Use LB-type fluorescent lights with a minimum power of 2 W per 1 dm^ of surface area for this. Because they can burn leaves, incandescent light bulbs should not be used. There should be at least 12 hours of daylight.

It is possible to forgo mineral feeding in the general aquarium in favor of routine water changes.

By producing daughter plants at the tips of lateral shoots, limnobium reproduces swiftly. When three leaves and a root nodule form, they can be divided.

The floating heart plant, or linnobium stoloniferum, is a useful addition to any aquarium. This plant is prized for its speedy growth and lovely floating leaves, but it’s also known for its capacity to preserve water quality by blocking algae growth and offering shade. For both novice and seasoned aquarists wishing to improve their aquatic environments, it is the best option due to its low maintenance requirements and versatility.
